Regional Field Coordinator - Midwest Region

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Regional Field Coordinator coordinates AFL-CIO field campaigns, programs and priorities, including coordination with national and in-state staff. The Regional Field Coordinator helps to coordinate the day-to-day activities of State Federations and their staff as it relates to the campaigns, programs and priorities of the AFL-CIO. The Regional Field Coordinator works on department priorities as they relate to electoral & issue campaigns but also building long-term capacity at the state and local level. The Regional Field Coordinator will take a lead role or a supporting role helping staff and leaders achieve goals in assigned states by the Deputy and National Field Directors.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
• Represent the interests of the national AFL-CIO and its officers at all times with state-federations, area and central labor councils, AFL-CIO affiliates and AFL-CIO constituency groups, coalition partners and other support organizations.
• Lead National AFL-CIO's efforts with state and local federations in the development and implementation of mobilization plans for campaigns and programs.
• Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of state and local labor federation structures. This assessment includes the recommendations of the organization's operations and programs, and the utilization and management of resources and relationships with community partners.
• Develop relationships and communicate on a regular basis with appropriate regional and local unions staff, state federations and CLCs to provide program & capacity building support.
• Under the direction of the Deputy Field Director ensures in-state staff have the most up-to-date information & data to drive strategy.
• Review in-state strategy in conjunction with DFD to advise in-state staff of necessary changes to campaign plans, in-state capacity building strategies or outreach plans.
• As directed by the DFD takes a lead role or supporting role helping staff and leaders achieve goals in assigned states.
• Work with AFL-CIO national staff to help develop and ensure program related communications, materials and requests for these resources, are approved and made available to in-state staff, affiliates, state feds and clcs based upon requests made.
• Works with field division leadership and coordinates with staff on the reporting processes to comply and adhere to all federal, state and local legal reporting.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
• 5-7 years' experience within the labor movement.
• Demonstrated ability effectively managing communication flow to staff in different geographic locations and a central office.
• Knowledge of and experience with national, state and local structures of the labor movement.
• Demonstrated ability to write and implement strategic campaign plans.
• Demonstrated experience in implementing large scale electoral, mobilization, political and issue campaigns in states.
• Working knowledge of federal and state electoral & legislative processes.
• Demonstrated leadership ability.
• Demonstrated ability to build teams and work effectively in a team environment in both a lead and a support role.
• Demonstrated ability to work in politically sensitive and high-pressure environments.
• Working knowledge of campaign finance laws.
• Ability to work independently within the context of a plan.
• Ability to resolve conflicts while maintaining important and effective relationships.
• Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, and demonstrated experience in developing campaign and personal work plans and goals.
• Ability to lead and motivate others within a charged political environment.
• Excellent listening, interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills.
• Computer proficiency is required: including Word, Excel, LAN, & PowerPoint.
• Excellent written and verbal skills.
• Ability to travel on a regular basis if needed, and for extended periods of time.
