OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITES

The AFL-CIO is looking for a strong, dynamic Deputy Director to help lead our digital strategy team. We have built a top-notch digital strategies program and a stellar team – now we need somebody who can help guide us to the next level.

The Deputy Director will oversee the day-to-day operations of our digital strategies staff and their work, including but not limited to: overseeing social media strategy, email and SMS list management, strategic decision-making on digital campaigns, website design, content creation, tech and tool development, and crafting strategic messaging.

We're looking for an organizing and digital powerhouse – as passionate about the social justice movement as they are about keeping up to date on new media trends and developments.


DESCRIPTIONS OF DUTIES:

• Oversight of the day-to-day operations of our digital strategies staff
• Managing a team of campaign strategists, content experts, developers and designers.
• Develop and manage overall strategy to incorporate the use of online organizing tools in all political and legislative campaigns in the field.
• Work closely with the Campaigns, Communications, Organizing and Political departments on the development and execution of political, issue and legislative campaigns.
• Oversee the development and execution of online rapid response strategy and content.
• Serves as department lead for specific program initiatives.
• Represent the Digital Strategies department at senior level meetings.
• Report to the Director as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proven experience managing an online program that includes a large email list, multiple campaigns, several new media channels and digital media staff.
• Experience with online organizing and innovative ideas for how to use digital tools to win local and national campaigns and elections.
• Demonstrated experience successfully managing a staff team.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a team of developers, digital strategists and other digital media staff.
• Demonstrated ability to make quick decisions that takes into account different organizational needs and requirements.
• Strong editorial judgment and writing ability. You should be able to quickly craft, review and approve compelling copy in an authentic voice that resonates with our audiences.
• Ability to craft and implement an internal staff development program.
• Track record of creative ideas for mobilizing members and integrating online and offline activism.
• Expert knowledge of the latest online tools and emerging technologies.
• Experience with Constituent Relationship Management systems a plus.
(i.e. Salsa, Action Network, Convio, Blue State Digital).
• Experience with development and use of Content Management systems a plus.
(i.e. Drupal, EZ Publish, etc).
• Excellent time-management and organizational skills, and must be able to multitask and prioritize.
• Strong knowledge of the labor movement and passion for working family issues and progressive politics.
• Experience managing and tracking budgets and spending.
• Proven leadership skills.
• Ability to work long and extended hours when needed.
